Welcome to the Nordic Meeting of National Commissions and Permanent Delegations for UNESCO.
As announced last year the Icelandic National Commission for UNESCO will host the next Nordic Meeting of National Commissions and Permanent Delegations for UNESCO.
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the town of Hveragerði for our meeting.
Hveragerði is a town and municipality in the southwest of Iceland around 45 kilometres from the capital Reykjavík and takes half an hour to drive to along the Ring Road travelling south. It is often nicknamed ‘the Hot Spring Town’, due to the active geological and geothermal forces that define it.
Hveragerði offers a variety of dining options that showcase Iceland’s unique cuisine and culinary traditions, from traditional Icelandic cuisine to farm-to-table dining and cosy cafes. The newest addition is an elegant food hall, bar, shops, and ice cream shop at the Greenhouse Hotel.
Hveragerði offers a unique combination of natural beauty, geothermal activity, and wellness facilities, making it a sought-after destination for visitors seeking refreshment, relaxation, and health benefits of the therapeutic properties of the hot water and natural clay.
Over the years, Hveragerði has gained a reputation as a lively artistic and cultural town, and artists, poets and musicians have come to live there for long and short periods of time. Various events, live music, art exhibitions and other events are regularly scheduled in Hveragerði.
